Step into a world of stories at Book Swap Kids, a playful reading event focussed on children ages 6 to 10, created by Michelle (Book Swap Circle) and Daniella (educational psychologist specialised in reading motivation). In the magical setting of de Oude Hortus, children bring 1–6 books from home and swap them for new stories using special book tokens. They explore cosy reading spots, join creative activities in the craft corner, and enjoy warm read‑aloud moments that bring stories to life. We welcome Dutch, English, and Spanish books. We give extra love to graphic novels, perfect for growing readers. Steps for book swapping: 1. Choose the books you want to take to Book Swap Kids at home 2. Take up to 6 books to the check-in table 3. Receive 1 token per book 4. Pick new favorites in the Swap area (tables full of books) 5. Check out with your books and tokens Rules for the books: 1. Children's books in good condition (no annotations or broken covers/pages, no old library books etc.) 2. English, Dutch or Spanish 3. Not too old 4. Ask yourself; Can I make someone happy with this book? The event runs from 10:00 to 13:00, where you can access the garden for activities and the swap area in the back of the garden. Children join with an accompanying adult. Wander the garden together and discover books that will spark their imagination long after the day ends.
